Age 89, of Beaver Dams, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Ketchem) Bowman; sons and daughters, Laurie (Rick) Bowman-Gibson of Woodville, AL, Betsy Bowman of Tarpon Springs, FL, Dana (Raymond) Maciewicz of Marcy, NY, Donald (Susan) Oldroyd of Danielson, CT, and David (Susie) Oldroyd of Waverly, NY; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by his brother and sister, Becky (Jim) Steiner and David (Loy) Bowman, and sister-in-law, Linda Bowman, all of North Chemung. Air Force and a member and past commander of Odessa American Legion. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Condolences at officers and members of Free and Accepted Masons will gather at the funeral home . Charles retired from Cargill after 33 years of service. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, and loved to take his daily walk to the H&E to see all of his friends.
Age 77, of Burdett, NY, passed away on her birthday, October 19, 2017. Born in Corry, PA, the daughter of Frank and Sussie Henton, she was one of 16 children.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 1999; son, Mike, in 2011; and two brothers.
Also, his brothers Ted (Onolea) Herforth, Roland (Linda) Voorheis, and Jim Voorheis, and sisters, Gayle (Adolf Busse) Mazourek, Linda (Millard) Abbott and Carol Osborne, and dozens of nieces and nephews and large extended family.
He and his wife owned and operated South Hill Construction and Voorheis Farms for over 50 years.He was a lifelong resident of Schuyler County with the exception of his service in the U. Air Force stationed in the State of Maine, where he met the love of his life.His love for his family, his friends/neighbors and the beautiful country he lived in was always top of mind and he took none of it for granted. The immediate family will provide flowers for a Memorial Service to celebrate his life to be held at Reynoldsville United Methodist Church in Reynoldsville, NY at 4 p.m.Jim was a retired second-shift foreman with Kennedy Valve in Elmira. He was also a member of the Schuyler County Honor Guard, Jim was a member of North Chemung United Methodist Church and Breesport Lodge F. Age 87, of Burdett, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Schuyler Hospital. He is survived by his six children, Charlene (Albert) Root, Kathleen Leff, Darlene (Richard) Jaynes, Eileen (Rick) Dean, Charles (Jan) Ackley, and Marlene (William) Mc Minds; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Donald Litteer; and sisters-in-law, Avis Litteer and Sadie Wheeler.In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by his infant twin boys, James Harold Jr. He was born on May 12, 1930, the son of the late Arley and Grace (Clark) Ackley. He was predeceased by his great grandson, Nathan Welch; son-in-law, William Leff; brothers-in-law, Andrew Barrett, Robert Litteer and Skip Litteer; and sisters-in-law, Emma Barrett and Virginia Litteer. Funeral services will begin at p.m., followed by burial in Beaver Dams Cemetery.at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 6632 State Route 96A, Romulus.
